Tesla recently rolled out a series of new autopilot and self-driving features, including improved self-parking, auto-lane changing, and traffic navigation.

Key Details:

• Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) is a suite of semi-autonomous driving tools that provide active guidance and assisted driving for the burdensome parts of piloting cars (e.g., steering, braking, or accelerating).

• It’s powered by large volumes of Neural Networks (NNs) trained through driving data, such as handling turns, obstacles, and speed adjustments.

• Tesla Vision leverages a network of cameras, ultrasonic sensors, radar, and Computer Vision algorithms to constantly monitor the vehicle’s surroundings.

• Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk explained that Tesla Vision is designed to replicate how human vision functions with our eyes and brain.

• FSD 12.4.3 offers Vision-Based Attention Monitoring, which uses the car’s interior camera to ensure the driver is actively paying attention to the road.

Why It’s Important:

• NNs are a “Black Box” that requires large amounts of data and computational resources. Musk cannot isolate each independent variable’s (e.g., photographic road data) influence on the dependent variables (e.g., accident probability).

• Autonomous vehicles threaten ride-sharing and truck driver job security. Over-the-air updates are inconceivable for legacy carmakers.

OpenAI hopes to reduce reliance on NVIDIA by streamlining access to computing resources, preventing bottlenecks in processing power that halt AI advancements.

Groq announced two new open-source AI models built with Meta’s Llama 3 and designed for software tool use to automate repetitive tasks, build powerful assistants, or enhance scientific workflows.

Llama-3-Groq-70B-Tool-Use is the highest-performing AI model on the Berkley Function-Calling Leaderboard (BFCL): a benchmark that evaluates how well Large Language Models (LLMs) interact with software tools.

It achieved 90.76% accuracy on the BFCL benchmark, securing the top position for all proprietary and open-source AI models.

Llama-3-Groq-70B-Tool-Use leverages Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) to align the AI model with human preferences.
