  • The AI-powered vision system leverages a single Neural Network (NN) to process camera data and develop digital 3D environments without LiDAR or RADAR.

  • Tesla’s Optimus is a humanoid robot that can sort objects autonomously to perform unsafe, repetitive, or tedious tasks.

  • The AI-powered vision system can improve how Optimus balances, navigates, perceives, and interacts with the physical world.

Why It’s Important:

  • During Tesla’s 2024 Q1 Earnings Call, Musk explained how Tesla’s Optimus will “ultimately be worth more than the self-driving care business.”

Meta reportedly offered millions of dollars to celebrities to use their voices in upcoming AI projects.

Key Details:

  • British actress Judi Dench, comedian Keegan-Michael Key, and raspy-voiced actress Awkwafina could become part of Meta AI.

  • The AI voices would be used across Meta’s platforms where Meta AI exists, including Facebook, Instagram, and the Ray-Ban smart glasses.

  • The contracts would be temporary, and actors could choose whether to renew the agreement when it expires.

Why It’s Important:

  • Meta has prioritized younger users since the emergence of TikTok, which recently overtook Instagram in popularity among teenagers. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently explained that the company would retool “its team to make serving young adults their North Star.”

🧪New AI System Can Listen While Speaking

ByteDance researchers and X-LANCE Lab scientists developed a new Listening-While-Speaking Language Model (LSLM) that enables AI models to listen and speak simultaneously.

AI models are limited to turn-based conversations, lacking the ability to interact with humans in real-time spoken scenarios. For example, AI models can’t be interrupted when the generated content isn’t satisfactory.

LSLM is an end-to-end system with listening and speaking channels that advance real-time, interactive, speech-based AI conversations.

LSLM uses a token-based decoder-only Text-to-Speech (TTS) for speech generation and a streaming self-supervised learning encoder for real-time audio input.

LSLM can detect real-time turn-taking and respond to interruptions to mimic natural conversation.
