Amazon founder Jeff Bezos reportedly stepped back into an operational leadership role as co-CEO of Project Prometheus (PM), a new billion-dollar AI lab with no website.
Key Details:
PM, which hasn’t announced any products, published any research, or reached any milestones, has already raised more than $6.2 billion and hired nearly 100 AI researchers from frontier AI firms like Google DeepMind.
It’s focused on building “AI for the physical economy.” In other words, developing AI capable of handling real-world physical processes involving machines, factories, and aerospace.
The new billion-dollar AI lab also quietly acquired General Agents, which developed “Ace,” an AI-powered on-screen helper that transforms your computer into a proactive digital co-worker who drafts emails, juggles files, and analyzes spreadsheets.

Humans uniquely weave together what we see, hear, smell, taste, and touch with our surroundings to instantly make sense of a situation.
Imagine AI learning how signals from multiple sensors connect across time and space to understand what’s happening and predict what might happen next.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) recently released “Project Iceberg,” which found that current AI systems can already replace 11.7% of the U.S. labor market.
Key Details:
They created The Iceberg Index, which simulates how 151 million U.S. workers function across the country to estimate the percentage of each job role that current AI systems can handle.
“Basically, we created a digital twin for the U.S. labor market,” said ORNL Director Prasanna Balaprakash. It doesn’t account for quality thresholds, regulatory constraints, or user acceptance. Just because current AI systems can perform a specific job role doesn’t mean they will. In other words, technical capability doesn’t equal real-world adoption.
The 151 million U.S. workers are represented as AI Agents, each assigned a skill set, job role, and location. It maps more than 32,000 skill sets spanning 923 job roles across 3,000 regions.
Why It’s Important:
The recent wave of tech-sector layoffs is just the “tip of the iceberg,” only representing 2.2% of total wage exposure, or about $211 billion in wages.
Beneath the surface lies a much larger portion of job roles that current AI systems could affect, totaling around $1.2 trillion in wages. This includes industries often overlooked in automation forecasts, such as human resources, logistics, and finance.
