🌴The Small Caribbean Island With Big AI Profits

A small Caribbean Island has made over $32 million from The AI Boom because of a unique internet domain.
Key Details:
The AI Boom refers to the rapid adoption of AI applications by Tech Giants. The global AI market is valued at over $279 billion.
In 1995, a British overseas territory called Anguilla was assigned the “ai” country code by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
That means whoever wants to get their hands on a URL ending in “.ai” has to get it from the Anguilla Government.
Elon Musk’s xAI, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta AI, and Satya Nadella’s Microsoft AI must pay between $150 and $200 to register their “.ai” internet domains.
Why It’s Important:
Anguilla is earning around $3 million per month, which is $2,250 per person per year.
Anguilla relies on tourism and offshore banking for the island’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) (i.e., the total value of all goods and services produced in a country). The “.ai” internet domains have increased the island’s GDP by over 10%.

OpenAI introduced a Reinforcement Fine-Tuning (RFT) Research Program during the second day of the “12 Days of OpenAI” event.
Key Details:
The “12 Days of OpenAI” event involves 12 livestreams across 12 days of “a bunch of new things, big and small.”
RFT is a new customization technique that allows developers to create “expert AI models” that excel at specific tasks within niche domains.
In other words, RFT enables developers to create tailored AI models more relevant to specific industries.
It relies on Reinforcement Learning (RL) during the training process, which teaches AI models to make decisions that result in the best outcomes.
RL mimics the “trial-and-error” process humans use to learn, where actions that lead to desired outcomes are reinforced.
Why It’s Important:
RFT leads to the creation of AI models with more accurate, relevant, and efficient outputs for specific tasks within complex industries.
For example, Thomson Reuters partnered with OpenAI to fine-tune (i.e., adjust an AI model to fit your data better) a legal assistant called “CoCounsel” that meets the needs of legal professionals.

Elon Musk’s xAI recently launched “Colossus,” the world’s biggest AI Cluster powered by 100,000 NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs and 50,000 NVIDIA H200 Tensor Core GPUs. Now, xAI plans to add over a million NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs to “Colossus.”
An AI Cluster is a computer network that combines the power, storage, and memory of GPUs to process large datasets and accelerate AI workloads.
“No one thought it was possible to make more than 30,000 GPUs coherent, meaning every GPU knows what every other GPU is thinking in an AI Cluster,” said Gavin Baker, CIO and Managing Partner at Atreides Management, LP.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang explained that what Musk accomplished was “superhuman,” “never been done before,” and “Colossus is easily the fastest supercomputer on the planet.” A supercomputer would normally take three years to plan. Musk accomplished it in just 19 days.
