🗞RECENT NEWS

AMERICAN POLITICS

🇺🇸The World’s First AI-Enabled Political Campaign Caller

Democrat Shamaine Daniels is leveraging an interactive AI-powered political campaign caller named Ashley to secure a Congress seat.

Key Details:
  • Ashley is not your typical robocaller because none of her responses are pre-recorded. Instead, the system uses generative AI technology to create interactive and tailored conversations.

  • This tool unlocks the ability to conduct high-quality conversations at scale. Over the weekend, Ashley called thousands of Pennsylvania voters to promote Daniel’s campaign.

  • The software analyzed voter profiles and tailored conversations around critical issues they’re interested in.

  • Unlike a human, Ashley always shows up for the job, perfectly recalls Daniel’s views, and doesn’t feel dejected when hung up on.

Why It’s Important:
  • Using AI models to enhance politicians through campaign letters, automated text messages, and prospect calling has raised misinformation concerns.

  • OpenAI CEO Sam Altman testified in Congress that he was “nervous” about AI software’s ability to compromise election integrity through “one-on-one interactive disinformation.”

🇨🇳China’s WeRide Deploys Autonomous Buses

WeRide, a firm developing reliable driverless solutions, recently obtained two licenses to test robobuses.

Key Details:
  • WeRide secured two permits from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to deploy self-driving buses at the University of Singapore on a “larger” scale.

  • The Milestone One (M1) license denotes that WeRide can “test on open roads in certain areas with safety operators in full control of the vehicles.”

  • The company’s self-driving buses operate at lower speeds with fixed routes to reduce traffic conditions.

  • WeRide recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Woodlands Transportation Services, Singapore’s largest private transport and bus service.

  • WeRide’s investors have provided over $1.4 billion to help the firm expand into foreign markets.

Why It’s Important:
  • Singapore has the world’s third-highest population density, with an aging workforce and manpower constraints. Autonomous vehicles would reduce private vehicle ownership, fixing the country’s congestion and air pollution while providing highly skilled jobs in the transport sector.
