BotBuilt, a startup revolutionizing construction with flexible robotic systems, aims to translate a building plan into a series of machine commands to tackle construction challenges.

Key Details:
  • The median household income for home buyers leaped from $88,000 to $107,000 last year, underscoring the increasing payment required to purchase a home.

  • BotBuilt is embracing technology to lower costs and mitigate the negative impacts of homebuilding.

  • BotBuilt’s robotics don’t produce homes from scratch. Instead, it prioritizes components of construction framing by piecing together walls, floor trusses, and roofing.

  • Robotics engineer Barrett Ames explained: “BotBuilt empowers builders by helping them increase their volume and margin by leveraging plentiful, high-quality, and affordable robotic labor.”

  • BotBuilt has scaled the company by raising $12.4 million in a seed funding round by Ambassador Supply, Y Combinator, and Shadow Ventures.

Why It’s Important:
  • The startup has built nine homes with over $75,000 in revenue. BotBuilt’s robotic wall panel and truss plants are projected to operate at 50% margins, delivering significant cost savings to builders.

  • Ames estimates BotBuilt will achieve $15,000 in revenue per house of wall panels built: “We already have ten builders with over 2,000 homes and apartment units in our pipeline.”
