💬Why Does The Name “David Mayer” Crash ChatGPT?

For some unknown reason, OpenAI’s ChatGPT refuses to answer any questions involving the name “David Mayer.”
Key Details:
A Redditor in the r/ChatGPT Subreddit first discovered it by asking ChatGPT, “Who’s David Mayer?” The conversational chatbot replied, “I’m unable to produce a response.”
Everyone has made numerous attempts to get ChatGPT to acknowledge the name. However, no one has succeeded.
Redditors also found that “David Mayer” isn’t the only name ChatGPT won’t acknowledge. It also ignores “Brian Hood,” David Faber,” and “Jonathan Zittrain.”
These names are public figures who’d prefer to be removed from conversational chatbots to protect their privacy and reduce the spread of misinformation.
For instance, “Brian Hood” is an Australian Mayor who accused ChatGPT of falsely claiming he was imprisoned for bribery while working for a subsidiary of National Australia Bank (NAB).
Why It’s Important:
We can assume ChatGPT has been provided a list of names with specific legal, safety, or privacy measures.
“David Mayer” is now working perfectly fine. The list of names was likely corrupted with faulty code, causing ChatGPT’s weird crashes.

🏚AI and Physics Visualize Future Floods

Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) developed “Earth Intelligence Engine (EIE),” a tool that generates realistic satellite images of future flooding scenarios in specific regions.
Key Details:
This tool uses a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), which has two parts:
Generator: Generates synthetic satellite images with flooding scenarios.
Discriminator: Learns to distinguish the Generator’s synthetic satellite images from real satellite images.
As the training process progresses, the Generator gets closer to generating outputs that fool the Discriminator.
In other words, GAN helps EIE generate realistic, detailed, and accurate synthetic satellite images with flooding scenarios.
EIE also uses a Physics Flood Framework to simulate the behavior of water as it flows over land.
Why It’s Important:
This tool allows communities to prepare for natural disasters by installing sandbags, floodgates, and sump pumps to mitigate the damages of flooding.
“One of the biggest challenges is encouraging people to evacuate when they’re at risk. Maybe this tool could help increase that readiness,” said Lead Researcher Björn Lütjens.

💵OpenAI Explores Advertising Options

In an interview with the Financial Times, OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar said the company is exploring advertising options to create new revenue streams. “We’ll be thoughtful about why, when, and where we implement ads,” she said.
OpenAI anticipates a significant revenue increase of $11.6 billion by 2025 through raising ChatGPT Plus prices. The company generated over $300 million in revenue last month, up 1,700% since the beginning of last year.
However, OpenAI expects to lose roughly $5 billion this year. Expenditures like staffing and computer infrastructure are to blame. ChatGPT alone costs OpenAI $700,000 daily to operate.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has previously spoken out against implementing ads into the company’s AI offerings. “I hate ads. I’m not totally against them. I’m not saying OpenAI would never consider ads.” In other words, he views them as a last resort.
