What if we could make respiratory infections like the common cold a thing of the past? “Intercept” believes that with the right focus and funding, it’s within our reach.
Key details:
A coalition of Big Tech companies, frontier AI firms, and high-profile individuals formed “Intercept,” a $500 million philanthropic initiative dedicated to drastically reducing, and ultimately eliminating, the global burden of respiratory infections like colds and flus.
This new philanthropic initiative targets the “flu funding gap,” as broad-spectrum preventatives for everyday sicknesses are commonly underfunded by private markets and overlooked by government grants. In other words, respiratory infections have historically been a neglected health burden.
One area of focus is intelligent air purifiers in public spaces that deactivate airborne viruses to improve indoor air quality. More specifically, this includes air filtration, antimicrobial light, and antimicrobial vapors that work in the same way our municipal water infrastructure filters out germs from our drinking water supply.
Key takeaways:
Today, we treat respiratory infections as a minor nuisance, yet they carry a massive cumulative burden. On average, people spend 15 to 25 days every year, about 5% of their lives, sick with colds and flus. Even crazier, respiratory infections raise our risk of serious illness, with a 6.1x heart attack risk for seven days after an influenza infection.
MIT Jameel Clinic notably developed “VaxSeer,” which predicts aggressive influenza strains to identify the most effective seasonal vaccine candidates. That’s just one example of AI’s impact on healthcare, moving the medical field from reactive treatments to proactive care.
GROQ
☁️ Groq’s $650 Million AI Inference Cloud Pivot

What does an AI chipmaker do after one of those not-acqui-hire deals, where a deep-pocketed competitor pays founding investors a hefty IP licensing fee and poaches vital employees?
Key details:
Groq secured $650 million in new growth capital to accelerate the expansion of its AI inference cloud business. It’s all about providing “serverless” access to ultra-high-speed LPUs, which are optimized to seamlessly process the inputs and generate the outputs of language models in real time.
Groq famously pioneered the world’s first Language Processing Units (LPUs), which are specifically engineered for the efficient processing of language models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. You can think of language models as statistical systems designed to predict the probability of a sequence of words.
Groq’s current pivot trajectory began on Dec. 24th, 2025, after entering into a non-exclusive licensing agreement with NVIDIA valued at approximately $20 billion. It left Groq with a massive personnel hole and a crippled business model.
NVIDIA hired away essential technical talent, including silicon architects and packaging engineers, as well as Groq’s Founder, Jonathan Ross, and Groq’s President, Sunny Madra. At NVIDIA GTC 2026, NVIDIA unveiled the “NVIDIA Groq 3 LPX,” a low-latency and large-context AI inference accelerator for AI agents.
Key takeaways:
Today, Groq operates 13 data centers across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific. The $650 million in new growth capital will help equip these 13 data centers with the “latest inference technology.” Groq expects to scale toward 200 MW within the next two years.
Groq supports over five million developers and thousands of “AI-native companies” that consume trillions of tokens every week. It’s a really impressive pivot that’s a masterclass in leveraging market positioning to raise fresh capital and refocus around a narrower pain point. Don’t be surprised if this becomes a new transaction template in the AI private markets.
