🐦X Will Use Public Data to Train AI Models
X (formerly Twitter) updated its privacy policy to collect user biometric data to train machine learning and AI models for Elon Musk’s xAI startup.
Key Details:
The revised policy states that X “may collect and use your biometric information for safety, security, and identification purposes.”
Alex Ivanovs, an author at Stack Diary, discovered the policy change and concluded that Elon Musk is leveraging X as a data source for his venture, xAI.
The xAI landing page states that while it’s separate from X Corp., it “will work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies to make progress towards our mission.”
Musk confirmed the privacy change by tweeting that “just public data, no DMs or anything private” will be used for training AI models.
Why It’s Important:
Elon is committed to embedding his footprint in the AI world. A significant bottleneck with AI models is data quality and uniqueness. Elon plans to safeguard access to X’s data and build a data feed for xAI to fuel his machine-learning projects.
Twitter users will find it more difficult to access specific tweets or hashtags and push their content to a broader audience. The platform is being optimized to collect viable data for AI ambitions, not enhance the social media user experience.

🎒Microsoft’s AI-Powered Smart Backpack
Microsoft patented an AI-powered smart backpack with a camera, speaker, network interface, processor, and storage.
Key Details:
Powered by AI, it can identify objects in the environment, perform contextual tasks, access information from the cloud, and interact with other devices.
Microsoft explained how “digital assistants are becoming more versatile due to advancements in computing. The present concepts relate to improvements in wearable digital assistants that can perform various tasks to benefit users.”
If you’re skiing, the backpack will scan the surrounding slopes to determine the optimal direction to race down the mountain.
As you pace down aisles in the grocery store, the backpack can provide recipes for items or perform price comparisons with other distributors.
Why It’s Important:
The patent highlighted some specific use cases for having an AI-enabled backpack. However, questions surrounding the adaptability of this backpack remain.
A phone, smartwatch, or wearable glasses won’t interfere with everyday tasks, while a backpack could add weight and restrict access to certain events like concerts.
