Elon Muskâs xAI announced Grok-1.5V, the startupâs first-generation multimodal model that can process visual information.
Key Details:
Grok-1.5V offers multi-disciplinary reasoning and can process visual information like documents, science diagrams, charts, screenshots, and photographs.
xAI also created the âRealWorldQAâ benchmark to measure spatial real-world understanding. For example, a user might ask an AI model which object is larger in an image.
Grok-1.5V outperformed OpenAIâs GPT-4, Anthropicâs Claude 3 Opus, and Googleâs Gemini 1.5 Pro on zero-shot setting (i.e., performing tasks without being trained on any examples) and chain-of-thought prompting (i.e., encouraging language models to explain their reasoning).

xAIâs Grok-1.5V enhances current conversational chatbot offerings with impressive vision upgrades such as âRealWorld QAâ to highlight spatial relationships in images.
All high-quality data could be exhausted by 2026. So, Big Tech companies are searching for synthetic data and real-world video to continue training their AI models.
xAIâs competitive edge is that Tesla provides a vast library of real-world video through their Full-Self Driving (FSD) initiatives.

Ukraine launched a series of drone attacks on Russiaâs oil refineries, forcing 670,000 Barrels per Day (BPD) of refining capacity to shut down.
Key Details:
Ukraine is leveraging AI-enabled drones to help weapon systems navigate unknown terrain, avoid jamming, and maximize strike precision.
The AI-enabled drones have struck 18 Russian oil refineries this year, with a combined capacity of 3.9 billion PBD.
Earlier this month, Ukraine hit Russiaâs Taneco oil refining complex, located over 1,300 kilometers, or 800 miles, from the frontlines.
Ukraineâs president, Volodymyr Zelensky, is continuing to boost domestic weapon production, explaining: âWeâll produce a million drones. Weâll do everything to make it so.â
Why Itâs Important:
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has urged Ukraine to stop the attacks on Russian energy infrastructure out of concern for raising crude oil prices and instability in global energy markets.
Ukraineâs use of AI-enabled drones highlights the affordability and effectiveness of autonomous weapons compared to traditional warfare. These drones also use onboard AI systems to identify and lock onto targets without the pilotâs input.
