🚨YouTube’s BIG “AI Slop” Problem

According to video editing platform Kapwing, up to 33% of YouTube’s feed may consist of “Brainrot” or “AI Slop.”

Key Details:
  • AI Slop refers to low-quality and mass-produced AI-generated content that’s optimized to flood feeds and farm views. It’s all about quantity over quality since YouTube’s algorithms reward volume and engagement over depth and originality.

  • After surveying 15,000 of the world’s most popular YouTube channels, or the top 100 YouTube channels in every country, they found that 278 of them contain only AI Slop.”

  • The AI-powered YouTube channel with the most engagement is India’s Bandar Apna Dost, which boasts 2.78 million subscribers, 2.07 billion views, and estimated annual earnings of $4,251,500.

Why It’s Important:
  • If you’re scrolling through YouTube Shorts after creating an account, there’s a 21% chance you saw AI-generated content within the first 500 videos you viewed. The authentic human touch that once defined YouTube is being drowned out!

  • YouTube CEO Neal Mohan continues to struggle with the distinction between “AI-generated” and “AI-assisted.” He currently believes how content was made doesn’t determine if it’s allowed. What matters is the content itself. In other words, YouTube isn’t fighting AI unless it jeopardizes advertising or damages brand reputation.

💸NVIDIA’s $20 Billion Shortcut to Smarter Language

NVIDIA officially entered into a non-exclusive licensing agreement that’s reportedly worth $20 billion to access Groq’s AI inference technology.

Key Details:
  • Groq developed the world’s first Language Processing Units (LPUs), which are specifically designed for the efficient processing of language models: statistical systems that learn to predict the probability of a sequence of words. You can think of language models as the engines that power ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.

  • Unlike GPUs that do many things at once (i.e., parallel processing), LPUs do one thing after another (i.e., sequential processing), which is more cost-effective and energy-efficient for understanding and generating language.

  • Imagine GPUs as a team of runners (i.e., AI Chips), each with their own baton (i.e., Data), sprinting side-by-side on a wide track. When it comes to passing the batons (i.e., Data) between runners, things slow down.

  • Imagine LPUs as a relay race, where each runner (i.e., AI Chip) passes a single baton (i.e., Data) to the next runner (i.e., AI Chip), allowing everything to run super efficiently.

Why It’s Important:
  • NVIDIA captured nearly 94% of GPU market share in Q2 FY2025. Despite maintaining a near-monopoly for years, they’ve recently experienced some healthy competition from Google’s TPUs.

  • As part of this non-exclusive licensing agreement, Groq will continue to operate independently, while Groq CEO Jonathan Ross will join NVIDIA. He previously helped engineer Google’s TPUs before founding Groq in 2016.
